We’ll Stand As One Once Completed
Seatte, Washington (2011) at Soil Gallery✳ Collaborators: Lauren McCleary, Claire Echanove, Hannah Clark
A gallery intervention that challenges the participatory nature of contemporary social practice work. We explored the nuances of collaboration as a quiet process, rather than as a performative or overtly extroverted event. The installation of intimate but inviting workspaces and in-progress jigsaw puzzles transforms the gallery space into a delicate visual playground where the distinction between artist and audience disappears. Assembly of the works is a collective meditative effort. Prior to the gallery exhibition, the jigsaw puzzles were collaboratively curated, completed, and un-assembled by the artists. The puzzles as objects are works of collaborative narrative, artifacts of Together and evidence of With. A small-run resarch zine accompanied the exhibition.
